Cycle Training camps in South West France

Pyreneen cycle training camp Cycling and France do indeed go hand in hand. In every small french village you will find a club of cyclists, they come together every weekend for training and fun on their bikes; young and old. The Tour de France is a unique event and despite many damaging incidents – cycling in France always has and always will give rise to particularly awesome stories.

That's because the conditions for cycle training in France are just fantastic.

Aquitaine, the extreme South West of France is the absolute paradise for cycling; whether for touring or for cycle training. Ever since I have lived in Léon (1997) and had a guest house, cycling has just grown on me and also on my guests who return every year.

Pyrenees training ground I was an Olympic rower and like Thomas Lange, several rowers have visited Villa Souvenir for cycling instead of rowing. I guided the German Rowing World Champion Eight in 2006 through the lonely roads of Les Landes, also in the Pyrenees. In October 2007 the best rowers from Holland spent two weeks at my house and after rowing in the morning we had perfect cycling training conditions in the afternoon. I was a bit slower on that day :-)
The High Pyrenees - a cyclist's dream

Among more or less ambitious amateurs and top athletes, everybody will find their own cycle training paradise around Léon, which is perfectly situated between Forest, Ocean, Basque Country and the High Pyrenees. It would be difficult to find another region where you can train so much on bicycles and have so much enjoyment.

Cycling through the forest in Aquitaine On one morning we will take the quiet roads through the forest South East and cycle a circuit of 60, 80 or 120 km, taking a break with a view of the Atlantic.

The next day we will head south for the hilly area. After some days of cycle training in this part of France we can ride to the Pyrenees and find many choices: Aspin, Peyresourde, Pourtalet, Somport, Alto Jaizkibel, and Tourmalet. My favourite is an 82 km circuit, cycling through Soulor and Aubisque, climbing to around 2,500m. This is pure magic!

Cycle training in France is definitely for me. You can have it too, combined with delightful accommodation and best of all: our chef, Séverine's delicious cooking.

But besides a great training camp in this inspiring part of France, Villa Souvenir stands for unforgettable memories. Before you leave this web site, check the prices and dates for our very affordable all-inclusive cycle training camps and download a brochure.

YES, I want to hear more from time to time about where world champion athletes and others cycle in France.
